PortugalMembers of the Irish community in Torres Vedras held a meeting on Tuesday 5th September to explore the possibility of advancing communications and trade between the municipality of Torres Vedras and Fingal County.
The meeting was attended by Fianna Fail T.D for North Dublin, Daragh O’Brien and the mayor of Torres Vedras Carlos Bernardes.
The meeting was very productive, and many avenues of shared interest and knowledge were highlighted. The Tourism offering of Torres Vedras was explored with a tour of the local forts and the brand new interpretive centre of the “lines of Torres Vedras”, the fortifications and strategy used by Arthur Wellesley (later Duke of Wellington) to repel the Napoleonic troops.
The outcome was that when the mayor’s re-election was confirmed in October, Daragh O’Brien would issue an invite to Dublin to the Torres Vedras team to explore the ideas further.
