IPBN member Tom Murphy said, "You would not believe the number of people I have to explain basic corporate governance to. Here are some simple things you should know. If you have 100 shares in your company and you get an investor who wants to buy 50% of the company, you don't give them 50 of your shares. You click your fingers and create 100 more shares in your company (ta daaah!!) and trade them to the investor for the money. The company gets the money. This is for Ireland and the UK and it's a *gross* simplification but that's the basics."
